ALL RESPONSIBLE! EM NORMANDY STUDENTS CHALLENGED BY THE 17 UN SDGs

As part of the 2nd edition of the Responsible Project, formerly known as the Responsible Manager Award, EM Normandie and its Foundation challenged the 18 finalist teams in the 3rd year of the Grande Ecole Programme, from the Paris, Caen, Le Havre, Oxford and Dublin campuses.

The 80 students studied a company with regard to the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals), and proposed new innovative measures with regard to the United Nations Sustainable Development Charter, consistent with the company’s positioning, realistic and achievable.

Chaired by Noëlle Bessin Legrand, the jury met on 28 April 2022. It was composed of qualified personalities from EM Normandie and partner companies.

The jury was very impressed by the quality of the work and the professionalism of the presentations and awarded the First Prize (750€) to a group of 4 students from Paris. Noémie Couasnon, Danish Goulamhouss, Baptiste Maisonneuve and Maxime Roger worked on the Partelios Group, a creator of housing in Normandy.

The jury then awarded the Coup de Coeur prize (€250) to Baptiste Delaeter, Pierre Desplanques, Pablo Diaz and Nicolas Dufrene for their presentation for Ecomiam, a food distribution network.

The prize money will in turn be donated to charities chosen by the winners.

Congratulations to them!

COVID-19 Emergency Fund: Vincent Galopin launches a promotional operation for the benefit of the Foundation

Very sensitive to the importance of the COVID-19 Emergency Fund to help the students most affected by the health crisis, Vincent will donate 10% of his contributions to the Foundation to TUDIGO, where he offers a selection of beautiful wooden objects for the kitchen. This is until August 31, 2020 only and with the comment « EM NORMANDIE ».

COVID-19 situation

EM Normandie continues to adapt to the situation with all its teams, teachers and students, in order to ensure a return to school in 2020 under the best conditions.

General mobilization

Since March, the technicians at EM Normandie have been working to ensure that students and staff continue to work under conditions of equivalent quality: 100% of the courses have been given remotely with high-performance visual and sound recording modes, very close monitoring of students by the programme managers, numerous webinars organised, part-works maintained and adapted to the situation, etc.

All measures have been taken to protect employees and teleworking has been introduced.

Federating our EM Normandie community is paramount : internal and external communication has been intensified in order to offer students, future students, employees, friends, a unique and totally digitalized experience.

The Alumni Association and the Foundation are mobilizing for the Student Social Fund, in order to maintain equal opportunities for students facing major financial problems:

  • 20,000 solidarity donation from the Alumni Association
  • Foundation’s call for donations

The COVID-19 Emergency Fund to preserve equality of opportunity

Disparities between students exist and the Foundation has made every effort since its inception to enable students whose financial situation is precarious to continue their studies through scholarships. These disparities are growing and we have to manage more and more difficult situations (degraded parental resources, suppression of internships or support jobs, even family losses…).

By making a donation to the Foundation, you will help these students and be in solidarity with the EM Normandie Community. Make a donation.

  • single direction of circulation clearly displayed,
  • materialization of the distance of at least 1 meter.
  • display of the instructions for barrier gestures,
  • elimination of collective water fountains, microwaves, coffee machines, refrigerators, dispensers (drinks and food) and hand dryers.
  • adaptation of workstations,
  • installation of outdoor break areas and reorganization of the food court.
  • training of General Services teams in how to welcome employees and visitors (distribution of protective health kits, assignment of visiting hours, etc.).
  • COVID referents – 19 appointed: Daniel Choplet, Secretary General, Solène Heurtebis, Director of the Le Havre Campus, in charge of updating the PRA, Alexandre Osmont, Head of Buildings and General Services, for the organization of work and strict compliance with safety and hygiene instructions.

The new Le Havre campus

Preserving equal opportunities: COVID-19 Emergency Fund

We are currently going through a very difficult time for everyone and the Covid-19 pandemic is increasing the difficulties of the most disadvantaged students.

The consequences are very important because many students are facing unexpected changes in the financial management of their studies.

Some students had « student jobs » in parallel with their studies, to enable them to pay various charges, which is no longer possible today. Others, working on a sandwich course, often independent of their parents, find themselves in technical unemployment and receive a reduced salary. Some parents, too, who are responsible for their child’s school fees, face a deterioration in their income.

These events are likely to seriously undermine the ability of many young people to continue their education.

In response to this, the EM Normandie Foundation and the Alumni Association EM Normandie are mobilizing and are setting up two schemes to contribute to the school’s Student Social Fund:

  • The Alumni Association makes a donation of 20 000€ to support the students of EM Normandie.  Being a partner in the students’ success also means mobilising in difficult times so that each student can pursue their studies with serenity in order to achieve their professional goals.
  • The EM Normandie Foundation is opening a COVID-19 Emergency Fund with the aim of collecting €50,000 by the start of the school year in September. All donations collected will be redistributed to students in need in order to preserve equal opportunities.

Today, more than ever, we need the solidarity of the whole community of family and friends of EM Normandie. You can now make your donation here. Every donation is essential, whatever the amount. If you can, we are counting on you.

We thank you deeply for your generosity.

Yours sincerely and be well,

Jean-Louis Grégoire                    Claude Changarnier

Foundation prize: The Orange Innovation Academy Challenge

The EM Normandie Foundation prize was awarded to the winning team of the Challenge organised by Orange on Tuesday 11 February at the Orange Lab offices in Caen.

Serving digital innovation by relying on the collective intelligence of experienced engineers and digital natives: this is the challenge launched in 2016 by Orange, ENSICAEN and EM Normandie through the Orange Innovation Academy, a unique initiative in France. Building on the success of the first two editions, Season 3 was launched last October with the support of eight engineering students from ENSICAEN and four students from EM Normandie – Startup and Digital Development specialization.

Three mixed teams, made up of students from these two schools, worked for more than 100 hours to propose an innovative and relevant solution before the jury in which the Foundation participated.

The evaluation focused on the innovative character, the relevance of the Business Plan, the technical solution and the quality of the presentation. The winning team was composed of 4 students: Antoine Hemery and Paul Lerick, students from EM Normandie and Quentin Marcotte and Benli Hurault, students from ENSICAEN, who presented the project « EDEL« , an application designed for elderly people who are far from their families and are not very familiar with computers and new technologies.

This very ergonomic, tablet-based application provides them with quick and easy access to various services that can accompany them and make their daily lives easier. Comparable to a HUB, this application allows access to multiple connected objects such as a medication dispenser set to the time of use or a connected bracelet that will alert the family and the emergency services in case of a fall. Added to this are numerous services such as the possibility for the family to know in real time the state of health of the senior citizen, to order medication and much more.

The winners have received a cheque worth €500 to help them develop their application and will benefit from an incubation offered by Normandie Incubation and InSIDE, the incubator of EM Normandie.

« The EM Normandie is now based on 3 pillars: the School itself, which focuses on pedagogical excellence through accreditation, an international dimension and multidisciplinary teaching, the Alumni Association, with 17,000 members, which encourages networking, facilitates job search and communicates extensively outside and on social networks, and the Foundation, which is long-term and is there to raise funds in the general interest, on three fronts:

– Act for equal opportunities and social diversity,

– Promote high-level research, pedagogical excellence (82 teacher-researchers, already 3 Chairs), and the publication of articles in the specialized media to ensure that the competence of our faculty is recognized,
